SURFACE PREP FAQ'S

Grinding

Grinding

Cost:
Our minimum charge is $300, which is equal to 1½ hours of grinding.  Grinding time will vary depending on the type of concrete and the amount of material that is to be removed.

Cleanup:
Grinding is messy.  We will do our best to minimize this, but you will want to hang plastic to contain the over spray.  We use water to eliminate dust, and our operator will vacuum up the slurry when he is finished cutting.

Type of equipment:
The grinder is electric, so it doesn’t produce fumes. Grinding is generally used to eliminate humps and curled joints for floor preparation.  It leaves a smooth surface, but not a high polished surface.

Scarifying

Cost:
Our minimum charge is $300, which is equal to 1½ hours of grinding.  Grinding time will vary depending on the type of concrete and the amount of material that is to be removed.

Cleanup:
Scarifying is messy.  We will do our best to minimize this, but you will want to hang plastic to contain the over spray.  We can use water to minimize dust, and our operator will vacuum / sweep up the material when he is finished cutting.

Type of equipment:
The scarifier is gas powered and produces fumes, so it cannot be used in unventilated areas.  Scarifying is generally used to remove trip hazards and to allow doors to open/close due to frost heaved slabs.  It leaves a rough non-skid surface.
